If you've searched for Christian clothing lately, you know there's a lot of it out there. Some of it is great. A lot of it is just a Bible verse slapped on a cheap blank so someone can make a quick buck. I say that as someone who runs a Christian clothing brand and wants the whole space to be better.
So if you're trying to decide where to spend your money, here's what I'd actually look for.
1. Does the quality match the message?
If a brand is going to put Jesus' name on something, it should be made well. A shirt that falls apart after five washes doesn't represent the message it's carrying. Look for heavyweight fabric, real stitching over cheap printing where it counts, and honest sizing.
2. Is there a real story behind it?
The best faith brands aren't just businesses that picked a niche. They come from something real. Ours started because a conversation about faith and mental health wasn't happening, and I wanted it to. You can read why we're called Forty-Six Ten and why a clothing brand talks about mental health if you want to know where we come from.
3. Does the "gives back" actually mean anything?
"Gives back" gets used loosely. Ask what it actually means. A percentage of profit? To who? For us it's ten percent of our profits to Christian mental health organizations. Not ten percent of one collection for one week. It's built into how we operate, because the mental health piece is the reason we exist.
4. Would you actually wear it?
This one's simple. A faith brand only starts conversations if people actually want to put the clothes on. If it looks like a youth group giveaway from 2009, it's going to sit in a drawer. Design matters, not for vanity, but because a piece you love wearing is a piece that gets seen.
Where we land
I'm obviously biased, but the reason we do this the way we do is that we believe the clothes are a means, not the point. They're reminders and conversation starters, and the profit does real good. If that's the kind of brand you want to support, take a look at our best sellers or the Jesus Saves hoodie that started a lot of this. Or just see everything and judge for yourself.
Whoever you buy from, buy from someone who means it.
