Quick answer
- Forty-Six Ten is a Christian clothing brand built around faith and mental health, giving 10% of profits to Christian mental health organizations.
- Look for a brand that says how it gives, treats mental health with care, and points people to real help.
- If you're struggling right now, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
Forty-Six Ten started because of something we were living through. In January 2022, at Messiah University, we were struggling mentally ourselves. We loved Jesus, and we were still having a hard time. Not many people around us were talking about that.
So we started a brand to share faith in Jesus and mental health awareness in public, and to start conversations. This post is about why those two things belong together, what to look for in a brand that carries both, and where we fit.
One thing first. If you're struggling right now, please call or text 988. You can reach out even if you don't know what to say yet.
Why faith and mental health go together
For a long time, a lot of church culture treated anxiety and depression like a faith problem. Pray more. Trust more. Smile on Sunday. So a lot of people learned to hide the hard stuff.
The Bible is full of people who struggled. David wrote psalms from the bottom of the pit. Elijah sat under a tree and asked God to take his life. Jesus Himself said His soul was "overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death" in the garden. God met every one of them right there.
You can follow Jesus and still need help. Struggling is no measure of how much faith you have. Those two things sit together more often than people admit.
Faith gives you a hope that holds when your feelings don't. Getting help, whether that's a counselor, a doctor, or a friend who checks in, is one of the ways God takes care of us. You don't have to pick one.
Why put it on clothes?
Because the conversation has to start somewhere. A tee that says God cares about your mental health does a little of the talking for you. Someone reads it. Someone asks. Sometimes that turns into the conversation one of you needed.
We call that being a walking billboard. It's also a reminder for the person wearing it, on the mornings they need it most.
What to look for in a mental health clothing brand with a faith message
- Care in the message. Mental health is personal for a lot of people. Look for designs that speak with compassion and point to hope without making light of anyone's pain.
- A clear giving promise. If a brand says it supports mental health, it should tell you how. What percentage, of what, and to what kind of organization. Check that it says the same thing everywhere on the site.
- Real resources. A good brand points people to real help, like the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, and never acts like a shirt is treatment.
- A real story. Ask why the brand exists. If mental health is the reason it started, that shows up in how it talks about it.
- Clothes you'd wear. Fit, fabric, and design still matter. A reminder only works if it leaves the drawer.
What a shirt can do
A shirt is a small thing. It won't replace a counselor, medicine, or a friend who shows up, and we're not therapists. Still, small things matter on hard days.
A reminder can help you hold onto the truth on a morning when you can't hold onto it yourself. It can tell the person behind you in line that God cares about their mental health. And it can give someone an easy way to say, "Hey, I've been there too."
That's the job we hope our clothes do. Jesus does the rest.
Our story and our giving
Forty-Six Ten is named after Psalm 46:10, "Be still, and know that I am God." That verse means the most when your head is loud and everything feels like too much. You can read why we named it Forty-Six Ten.
We started in a college apartment, moved to my parents' backroom, then my grandparents' basement, and today we run our own warehouse. Our team still hand-packs every order in South Jersey.
10% of our profits go to Christian mental health organizations. Mental health is the reason we exist, so the giving is built into how we run the business, all year. I wrote more about that in why a Christian clothing brand talks about mental health.
Pieces that carry the message
- Tomorrow Needs You 988 Tee. Designed by Hannah Guernsey, it's a reminder that help is available, and it points to the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
- God Cares About Your Mental Health Tee. It says out loud that struggling with anxiety or depression doesn't mean you lack faith.
- Jesus Saves hoodie. A few colors carry a different message, like JESUS HEALS on the Red and BE STILL & KNOW on the Navy.
- Even the Stars Bow Down hoodie. Read the story behind it, about finding God's majesty in a hard season.
Every order ships with a free sticker, and US orders of $79 or more ship free.
If you're struggling today
Please don't carry it alone. Call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Tell a friend, a pastor, or a counselor. If you want somewhere to start in Scripture, these Bible verses for depression and verses about anxiety and worry are a good place to begin.
God cares about your mental health. So do we. Be still, and know that He is God.
